FAQ

Clear answers before anyone orders equipment.

Use these answers to understand our process, the documentation we prepare, and the limits of reimbursement before you commit to a project.

About our work

Do you sell and install, or only install?

Both. We sell the equipment, install it, orient the rider or property team, and coordinate follow-up so the project stays under one roof.

Do you do free assessments?

Yes, for most residential projects in San Francisco and the immediate Bay Area, the initial in-home assessment is free. For commercial walk-throughs, we will tell you up front if a fee applies.

How long does a stair lift install take?

A straight stair lift is often installed in a day once the equipment is on hand. Curved lifts require custom rail fabrication, so the lead time is usually longer.

Do you remove stair lifts when they are no longer needed?

Yes. We offer removal, and we can quote that separately from installation if it matters for documentation.

Reimbursement

Do you accept SFMRA?

We accept SFMRA and other reimbursement-related documentation and payments for eligible expenses. SF MRA itself decides which expenses are eligible and reimbursable; we structure the invoice and supporting paperwork so submission is straightforward.

Will Medicare pay for a stair lift?

Original Medicare (Part B) generally does not cover stair lifts or home modifications. Some Medicare Advantage plans may cover home modifications through supplemental benefits or SSBCI, but coverage varies by plan. Read your Evidence of Coverage and call the plan to confirm. See our Medicare Advantage checklist.

What about Medi-Cal?

For eligible Medi-Cal members in San Francisco, SFHP lists stair lifts as an example of Home Modifications / Environmental Accessibility Adaptations under Community Supports. Eligibility requires being at risk of institutionalization or hospitalization without the modification. See the checklist.

VA HISA for a stair lift?

VA HISA explicitly excludes stair glides and porch lifts. It can still fund other medically necessary access work such as ramps and bathroom modifications for qualifying veterans. More detail here.

Can you guarantee a program will cover my project?

No. Coverage decisions are made by the plan, administrator, or program, not by the installer. We can strengthen the packet and tell you when a route looks weak, but we cannot promise approval.

Logistics

What is your service area?

San Francisco and the Bay Area. Most projects are within about an hour of the city.

Do you provide written quotes?

Always. We separate equipment, labor, permits, inspections, and warranty terms so families and administrators can understand the scope quickly.
